Developing Heat Mitigation Strategies in the Urban Environment of Sydney, Australia

نویسندگان

چکیده

Heat island effects raise the ambient air temperature in metropolitan areas by 4–5 degrees Celsius and can reach 10 at their maximum. This phenomenon magnifies cities’ energy difficulties while reducing comfort. Mitigation strategies have been developed recommended to deal with issue. Methods increase albedo utilisation of vegetation appear be most promising, a reasonably high heat reduction capacity. paper examines mitigation techniques effectiveness under Sydney’s climate conditions compares strategies. We implement two perspectives, namely urban greening (green roofs, green pavements) (street, roof), characterise surface structures, Envi-met software is employed for our simulation method. show cooling potential 4.1 °C along this precinct during heatwave period. Scenarios that high-albedo material on road, pavements rooftops full maximum potential. The higher predicted peak temperature, up 1.18 °C, having no or little impact minimum temperature. outdoor thermal comfort based PMV indices varies between −0.33 scenario seven large layout 3. However, presents more acceptable comfort, but layouts are hot condition.

The effectiveness of cool and green roofs as urban heat island mitigation strategies

Mitigation of the urban heat island (UHI) effect at the city-scale is investigated using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in conjunction with the Princeton Urban Canopy Model (PUCM). Specifically, the cooling impacts of green roof and cool (white/highalbedo) roof strategies over the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area during a heat wave period (7 June–10 June 2008) are assess...

The urban heat island Mitigation Impact Screening Tool (MIST)

A web-based screening tool has been developed to assist urban planners and air quality management officials in assessing the potential of urban heat island mitigation strategies to affect the urban climate, ozone air quality, and energy consumption within their cities. The user of the screening tool can select from any of over 200 US cities for which to conduct the analysis. The mitigation stra...
